Mother Earth,
Wise Protectors of the four directions,
Guardian Spirits who watch over us,
Grandfathers and Grandmothers,
Ancestors who trod the earth before us,
Here is my humble prayer:

Thank you for all that was given to us.
Thank you for the precious gift of life.
Thank you for our food, our clothing, the houses we live in.
Thank you for our practice, for our spiritual teachings, and for the spiritual lineages
which made those teachings available for us.
Thank you for every being helping and loving us.
Thank you for our families.
Thank you for the trials sent to us, that we may learn from life.
Thank you for those who have enabled us to live and communicate together.
Thank you for those days we live together, and for the medicine we can share,
for all who made this possible.

And we pray so that you will:
Bless our Holy Mother Earth
Bless the valleys, mountains and plains,
the rivers, the brooks, the lakes and the oceans,
the clouds and the rains, the fires, volcanoes,
the thunder and the winds coming from the four directions.
Bless the bones of Mother Earth,
the cristals, the stones, the rocks and the metals.
Bless the hair of Mother Earth, the vegetables, the fruits, the trees,
the plants, the algae and the forests.
Bless the children of Mother Earth,
those who fly in the air, swim in waters, crawl on the earth,
the the four legged and the insects.
Bless the young and the children, the elders and our seniors,
all who have left this life and all who are not yet born.
Bless all those who guide and teach us,
all the teachings they bear within themselves,
and all those who walk with them on the sacred path.

We pray for ourselves, who need healing,
For the Earth, who needs healing.
This is my prayer.

AHO!

B : Some teachers from the Native American tradition say that it does not comprehend any notion of reincarnation. However, in one of your recent articles, dated from 30 November, you describe how the soul travels from one life to another. Is there a unity, in this tradition? It seems that many fundamental principles belong to all tribes, but that there are also many variations. But the question of reincarnation sounds essential to me, so what do you think of all these differences?

BE: It is true that many differences exist, mainly between North America and South America. In my article “The eternal travelling of the soul in the Native American tradition”, I spoke about the experience I shared with the Cherokee nation, which is quite isolated, with believes really different from those of other nations. But I heard many a Native American teacher speak about the concept of reincarnation. One should not try to define the native American tradition by isolating it in the past. The spiritual life of a people is always evolving, and many Natives have adopted the Buddhist philosophy, for instance.

B:
Blue Eagle, could you tell us how you react to Christmas and New Year celebrations, as a Native American ?

BE: Due to the social and commercial impact Christmas has in North America, few are those who do not celebrate Christmas at least in its secular aspects. Many First Nations have accepted and find hope and inspiration in the teachings of Jesus Christ. They celebrate Christmas like most Christians throughout the world.

This is also the time of the winter solstice and for those who do not celebrate Christmas, it's still a time of celebration. As for the New Year, it really traditionally falls on the winter solstice day as from then on the days get longer. A new year begins. Yet here also due to the social and commercial impact New Years celebrations have in North America, few are those who do not celebrate New Year's Day.

To give more substance to this answer, let me quote an excerpt for my most recent book, due for re-editing in French this coming February. Its title is Le Sentier de la Beauté (''The Beauty Way''):

"Three months after the fall equinox, comes the winter solstice, celebrated as the "Celebration of internal light". It is the period of the year when days are the shortest, and nights the longest. It is the time of the year when the forces of darkness are at their peak. It is then time for the warrior of light to manifest his qualities. We want to embody the inner light that will shine and overcome darkness. This ceremony comprehends twenty-four hours of vigil. One person will perform rituals in front of the altar, all night through, while others will take care of the sacred fire.

I remember a year when it was so cold, that it made the trees crack  with sharp sounds. Frost was covering their trunks and branches. The day after, the landscape was glistening as if spread all over with diamonds. When the sun rose, innumerable tiny rainbows lit nature into a bright gleaming. On that very night, I was not wearing warm clothes, and was to take care of the fire until daylight. My dog, who has since then left for the vast meadows of heavens, was with me. I had taken her in my lap, sheltering her under a blanket I used to keep ourselves warm. She was the one who taught me how to live through cold temperatures. She was cold, even being covered by the blanket. She kept shivering, then relaxing, shivering again and relaxing. So, I started doing the same: my shivering produced heat, and then I could relax, and feel the heat spread throughout my whole body. Nature will always be there to show us the way.

During that wakening night, we put out every fire in our houses. We look for a spruce tree, which symbolizes the year to come, the new cycle, and we bring it at our home. Starting from the solstice day, light will increase and days will grow longer and longer. The light inside ourselves is related to the light outside ourselves. It is the time of the year when the forces of darkness are most strong, and this step marks the moment when light starts coming back. We chose a young, well-balanced and beautiful spruce tree, which will symbolize the new year. With many prayers and ceremonies, we bring it to our hearth. We cut the four bottom branches and use them to sweep the old year away. We walk all over the house, singing and sweeping the air, the walls and the atmosphere around every object with the branches. Then, we burn the branches in the sacred fire, and the energies of the ending year can vanish into smoke. We place the spruce tree at the place of honor, and decorate it with our wishes for the year to come. It is a beautiful celebration which children love to do. We place representations of our wishes for the coming year to unfold as beautiful decorations on the tree.

During the night following this celebration, the guardians of the fire will practice the warrior's stance, the attitude of the one who keeps the light ever shining. It is the fire of awareness, the fire of vigil, our devotion to obtain wisdom, so that all beings can enjoy the best. The fire symbolizes the victory of light and our divine heart, which we strive to improve by being awake and vigilant.

The morning that follows our struggle against sleep and the forces of darkness, light comes back in our world. The warrior has overcome the forces of darkness, light is victorious, illuminating wisdom now fills the world with the light of awakening. We celebrate the rising of the sun, gathering next to the sacred fire. Its embers will be used to relight fires in the houses. This will be a new fire, the fire of victory. Not only will it warm our houses, but it will also bring into our lives a spiritual  living light. We end the celebration with a banquet. We have deserved it indeed. Although it is the shortest ceremony inaugurating a new season, it is one of the most intense.

All my best in these joyful days of celebration. All our relations.

B: In a wonderful text presented as a channelling from Josuah, about healing and therapists, it is said that suffering in the world should not necessarily be fought against, even when we feel shocked or horrified to see certain injustices. Josuah has this sentence, for instance: "Compassion, true compassion, which is filled with love, is not pity, but respect". Then he speaks about the choice that was made by the soul of those children dying from hunger, and explains that we see only a fragment of their story, and that this experience has a meaning in their personal and spiritual path, so we should not necessarily try to interfere.

Also, he says that Man was granted freedom of choice, and that this is what justifies his experiences of the obscure forces, of suffering, of evil, etc. He says that experimenting evil is the only way to get to the consciousness of what is good and pure, that without those experiences, we would enjoy perfection without knowing it; also, that this process in which we are involved, to embody ourselves and experience things in the flesh, to experience extremes, belongs to the process of creativity belonging to Man.

I remember that in one of your articles –posted on 22 June-, you wrote about karma, which can explain and justify our experiences on earth. But, again, if we read Anastasia's teachings, karma doesn't really seem to be to the point; yes, events are the consequence of previous events, the original mistake lead to the loss of our pristine purity and happiness; but she does not seem to give any credit to this story of a karma, she just seems to think that we have been mislead for thousands of years, and once we have retrieved the right path, every one can be happy again forever. In this context, karma seems to be one more invention of Man to explain things with which he would otherwise feel at a loss.

AB: Karma is a law of the universe, the consequence of one's actions, the law of cause and effect. Nowhere does Anastasia invalidate this law. She does point out though, that we are responsible for our actions and that it's our responsibility to transform the circumstances that lead to such suffering. She explains how such things have come to pass so we can understand and thus find the antidotes to such ignorance and darkness.

I do not trust any of these so-called channellings. I always speak for myself and take responsibility for what I say and have no need to rely on outside entities to access wisdom although it's possible to do so. When I do, on occasion, ask a question or two to my ancestors, I then rely on my own innate wisdom to process and validate the information they give me and then test it. Thus, if I ever share this information, it will come from my own discriminating wisdom, exploration and experience. I find it dangerous and irresponsible to profess teachings that come from other entities as if we were but vehicles and instruments in their hands. This is not spiritual sovereignty; it feels like dependency to me. Once again, allow me to insist that we not be lazy but find out what is true by accessing our own primordial innate wisdom within.

To conclude with this, I am not questioning the validity of what is said in this text; in fact, there is nothing new here. What is new is the possibility of endorsing the responsibility of our destiny and changing the circumstances which cause suffering. Rather than accepting suffering as inevitable, which is not true, we are called to assume our destiny as Men and co-create with the Divine paradise on earth for all life.

Peace and light,

Dear Blue Eagle, could you tell us about the concept of reincarnation in the Native American tradition? Do they also share the idea that the soul travels from one incarnation to another? Thanks!

Dominique ; )

Dear Dominique,

Yes, some nations do have the concept of reincarnation. Certain Cherokee clans even have ceremonies and practices that allow people of the same family to reunite from one life time to the next and retain the memory of their past relationships. I have never met a First Nations that believed in death. Death does not exist, it's but a change of worlds going from this plane of existence to another. The part of us that does travel from this physical dimension to more subtle dimensions and then back to this world is either called the soul or spirit or both. As I learnt from OhShinnah, Apache warrior chaman women, the soul is that part of us that contains the memory of this life, the personality if you wish. The spirit is the immortal God like part of us that will carry the soul from one life to the next. That is why there is a death wake, a three day period where native people would watch over the body without moving it.

The spirit will leave the body at the moment of death. It can take from a few hours to a few days for the soul to assemble all the person's memories before leaving the body. The spirit will then encapsulate the soul and carry it on to the next life.If the body is moved it might be difficult for the soul to reunite with the spirit. Thus the soul may wander, lost in

suffering, looking for a way back to the light.

There is great wisdom in these old traditions. It's very significant that many nations, many old cultures on all continents, have the same traditions. Truth is one for all humans.

The day will come when we will have, as in our beginning many hundreds of thousands of years ago, direct access to the truth and to all knowledge. We are not separated from that wisdom today, yet our life style, education, distance from nature and life in nature has made it difficult for us to immediately access the primordial wisdom that is our birthright. Yet, it's there. If we take more time to reflect, to look upon nature in silent contemplation, much of this knowledge will naturally and spontaneously appear to us. We will know the truth directly, receive knowledge directly. That is our true nature. As we come to that wisdom our eternity and immortality is revealed. We know we have been here again and again and that those memories and the knowledge that stems from them is all there within us. At that time, for you, reincarnation will no longer be a concept, and idea or a dogma, but a fact.

Peace and light
