Luke: Blue Eagle, could every one be a shaman, or every one who has interest in being one?

Blue Eagle
: Traditionally, no. It was something reserved to a very special kind of person who was ready to undergo trials and very extreme experiences that would project him out of the body, so as to be able to do this subsequently at will. So, the main training, traditionally, for shamans, was suffering and death. Actual death was sometimes a method of training. Like the documented experience where an Inuit shaman took his apprentice out on the ice, made a hole in the ice, and then tied his apprentice on a pole. Still tied to the pole he plunged him under the water, tied the pole there and he left him there for three days. He came back three days later, took him out of the water, woke him up, because that is one of the gifts a shaman has, to be able to call the soul back, and being in ice cold water, of course, his body was well preserved. And then he asked him what journey he had experienced in the other worlds. This was witnessed by Western people, who documented it.

So, traditionally, shamanism is an experience which is conveyed through suffering and death. But there is a whole culture around shamanism, which is unity with nature, and without having to be a shaman, shamanism as a way of life, as a method of communication with nature, and with Spirit World, is something that is open to everybody. It gives a way for everybody to understand things that are not really conveyed in Western civilization. So, everyone can have an understanding of shamanism, and can have experiences and techniques that help them to communicate with nature and make their life better.
But a true shaman is a very rare thing; I have seen a lot of people call themselves shamans, but actual shamans, I have met about three times in my lifetime amongst the old Indian people. But true shamans are quite exceptional people, they are all different. All of them have different gifts, very unique gifts, that come from their personal experience of going to Spirit World and talking to the Spirits there directly.

Luke: And, making a distinction, for us, ordinary people, how would be a way to find out about our talents, about our way of making contact with nature?

Blue Eagle
: Well, the shaman has the ability to help people go into Spirit World, and bring them back in a secure manner. For example, I did this last week-end with people to meet their crystal totem. In this way, they can go and meet with their totems, the totem animals that are with them. It is said that as long as people are not conscious of their totem animal, they have no conscious contact with them, they cannot call upon their energy. Once they know who their totem animal is, then they can use its energy in their everyday life. People can also learn how to communicate with their spirit guardians. We all have different guardians from every kingdom, from the vegetal kingdom, from the mineral kingdom, from the animal kingdom, and from the human kingdom. We have what we call actually our ancestors, and they are always with us, but when we don't know them, when we have no way of communicating with them, then the possibility for them to influence our daily life is very low, they don't have a lot of lea way. But if we know of them, and this is something we can discover together very easily, because we can accompany the person through and into the Spirit World, and back, in a secure manner, and they can learn how to talk with them, learn who their totem animals are, and who the Spirit Guardians are, and in this way, this can add a lot of power to their lives. Knowing the totems helps to better understand themselves, and they will have more impact on the world around them, because they will be working with forces which actually influence the world in which we live.

Here is a question from one of our readers, Alain, about meditation:

Hello Blue Eagle, I want to ask you a few questions about meditation : do you consider meditation to be a form of spirituality? I have tried the technique of the white meditation recently, do you know it? It consists in visualising a white wall during ten minutes or so, a stage which is supposed to help us emerge into contemplative meditation. Do you think this technique can help us experiment a state of deep meditation?

BE: Many forms of spirituality will teach meditation as a tool on the path to enlightenment. Meditation is not a spirituality, it’s a technique to assist one on the beauty way. One saying in Zen Buddhism comes to mind, although I don’t remember who originally said it but it goes this way: ‘Enlightenment is an accident and meditation is a tool to help us become accident prone’.

There are a great many meditation techniques. Some use visualization, energy exercises, concentration on a sound, an image or a spiritual being. But all have the same goal: helping us to go beyond ordinary mind to emerge into the here and now, thus enlightenment. In truth, being with the Divine source and light which is within us, is enlightenment. In the beginning, it comes and goes as we weave tight our robe of light but with time it grows and we dwell more and more in the one light until we become one with it. Then there are no more questions but many answers.

B: Blue Eagle, in previous articles, you already explained that natural cataclysms are a manifestation of people’s karma. Also, in your book Le Sentier de la Beauté, you write about the ability one has to influence the natural elements into propitious weather, if we are connected to nature and the spirits inhabiting her. Then you explain that in Europe, as nobody has been communicating, nor making offerings, for centuries, in most areas, those spirits are asleep, and it would take some time performing ceremonies to get in touch with them again.

Do you think the recent storm that raged in Europe can be understood as well as a manifestation of people’s karma in the regions that were affected, or that it is more the expression of a general situation and of the perturbations of the natural ecosystem generated by our modern time ?

BE: Both explanations are valid, though it might seem difficult to accept.

B: Do you believe that such phenomena could be avoided in the future if people would get back to rituals and ceremonies meant to honour the spirits of nature and communicate with them -even if some people still continue spoiling the earth with their consuming habits?

BE: Locally yes, we can have a certain influence on local weather patterns if we are living on family domains and meeting with like-minded people to honour nature and do ceremonies of thanksgiving and appreciation. But these local weather patterns are also influenced by global weather patterns that are definitely out of balance and will continue to be this way all over the earth until humanity understands its responsibilities towards creation.

Angels-and-entities.jpg

B
 : Blue Eagle, do you believe angels do exist? And if you do so, what are they exactly?
And what about entities? Here in Europe, many people believe wandering souls can disturb living people, and we have to “clean” the atmosphere away from them, or that some beings are still present at our side, sometimes also to help us, as entities. Do you believe in this phenomenon?

BE: Of course angels do exist and all sorts of non corporeal beings that some designate as entities. Native Americans will speak more of spirits because in substance they are consciousness without a physical body. As such, they do not have the same power as Man has. Many do have the mission of assisting Man and Nature with different tasks. Those who have the responsibility of assisting Man with his spiritual development are called angels in the judeo Christian belief system. In Native American culture, closer to nature, we speak of ancestors and totems.

Yes, especially in these days when death has become a mystery to the scientific mind, peoples' souls are sometimes lost between worlds. They are then often in great distress and try to attract living peoples' attention to their plight. With time they can even learn to have a certain effect on material objects. Some people are also sensitive to their energies and can be deeply disturbed by their influence and some can even see them. I have been trained to help these beings go back to the light and have assisted several families with these problems. Normally all this suffering is avoided when we understand the soul and spirits' relationship with the physical body and follow the appropriate steps to help someone on their next journey into the light and their next life. This was common knowledge before the technocratic age and all cultures knew to keep a vigil over the dead body for three days before disturbing it in any way. In this way the soul had time to separate all its memories from the body and integrate the eternal spirit of the person that has no limitations and has thus left the body immediately upon the moment of death. Once the soul has taken the memories, that is the wisdom and accomplishments the person has acquired during his lifetime, out of the body, (this can take up to three days) then the spirit will encapsulate them and bring all of the being into the light for further exploration of life and consciousness. Thus peace, quiet, and serenity should always accompany death in familiar surroundings and the body of the deceased should be moved as little as possible for three days. Unfortunately this is not the way things are done today. We may have mastered many technologies, but in truth they are not needed for us to be happy and they have invaded our lives to the point that we have forgotten our true nature. We are blessed now that things are changing, that wisdom is once more being sought out, that our relationship to the land and our primordial nature is once more being affirmed and explored.

May all beings find happiness and the true meaning of life.

B : Dear Blue Eagle, today the world proposes so many various therapeutic tools to get rid of illness, diseases, emotional, psychological or spiritual disorders… It is sometimes difficult to chose, or to feel what technique we should resort to. Do you think all techniques are equally efficient, or would you favor and recommend some specific ones? Do you think the technique really matters, in the healing process?

BE: The technique really is secondary. Three things are of vital importance:

1- that the person you consult really work from a place of compassion. Healing is more than a job, it's a vocation. You also need to love yourself and really feel that you deserve to be healed. If you feel compassion for yourself and feel the same from the person you are consulting, this will create trust which is an essential part of all healing;

2 – that you be flexible about the results. Healing can take you in many directions, because ultimately it's about being a better person. Dis-ease of any kind is a bell sounding your beings' will to reunite with harmony and universal law. It is the alarm telling you that something is out of order, out of sync with divine purpose or law. So, in truth, dis-ease is actually useful if not pleasant, as it does indicate that there is work to be done to align yourself with your primordial nature. This is only possible if you are aware of that possibility and ready to walk that path;

3 – that you do what is entailed to heal. If you are prescribed herbs and don't take them or are not persistent enough to do the whole treatment, then it might not work, even if the treatment was an appropriate one for you and the apparent dis-ease. This seems obvious, but sometimes we are lazy and have trouble getting focused on our treatment modalities. As a healer, I have seen this many times. The patient starts, but after a few days interrupts treatment to go have some fun on vacations or other pursuits. Healing with natural methods takes time and often takes some doing, but when well done the cure is permanent. That's the big difference with drug treatment. The effect of drugs might be fast and they are easy to take, yet the dis-ease then has a tendency to come back or transmute over time into a different illness.
